At United Studios in Sandy, we teach Shaolin kempo, a style that has roots in ancient China. Shaolin Kung Fu has a deep and rich history, as it is one of the oldest martial arts styles in the world. In fact, Shaolin is the style that many other disciplines have descended from. Although we don’t train the same way the monks do—devoting their lives and training martial arts for hours every day—we do occasionally get the opportunity to train with the Shaolin monks in China, and our Sandy Kempo Karate system has benefited for years from their wisdom and skill.
The main advantage of kempo karate in Sandy is its versatility. In its early beginnings, it was meant to prepare the martial artist for a variety of opponents and situations, and as the centuries have gone by, it has been further developed to fit modern weapons and scenarios. This versatility is precisely what makes kempo so great for beginners; you don’t have to be in great shape to start, because the techniques can be adapted to fit a variety of unique needs, including body type, injury, and fighting style.
Kempo karate in Sandy, features an in-close self-defense system, which means that you can defend yourself just as well in a small space such as a hallway or closet as you can in a larger space like a parking lot or open room. This versatility makes it the most applicable option for real life situations. Kempo karate is comparable to MMA, because it takes that mixed martial arts approach to defending yourself by using strikes, kicks, sweeps, throws, and submissions.
